Keenan & Lorie Smith - Lead Pastors

“When we lean in to the things of God, He is always able to pour into us.”

Keenan was born in 1962 in Decatur, Illinois. As a young man in high school, Keenan had a life-changing experience. When his father, an alcoholic, gave his heart to Jesus Christ, it brought radical change to the Smith household. Having witnessed genuine transformation in his father, Keenan also gave his life to the Lord—a decision that altered the course of his life forever. Obeying the call of God, Keenan entered the ministry in 1982. While serving God, he also started a small construction company, building homes and swimming pools.

Keenan’s wife, Lorie, was also born and raised in Decatur where her parents have pastored since 1961. Lorie was almost literally born in church, and that’s where she and Keenan first met. They were married in 1981. Lorie worked as a nurse in the early years of her marriage and later helped her husband build the construction company. During that time, Lorie never lost her main focus: raising their three children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and assisting Keenan in the ministry.

In 1991, the couple sold their company and moved to the Houston area where Keenan ministered in Pasadena, Texas. In 1999, along with four close friends, he established Team Impact, an international group of professional athletes using their God-given abilities to capture imaginations and motivate hearts. Team Impact ministers to the whole family while touching the lives of nearly a million public school students each year—and thousands more at evening crusades around the world. Team Impact entertains and inspires young people by demonstrating feats of strength while teaching them to say "NO" to drugs and alcohol and encouraging them to chase their God-given dreams. Each year thousands are lead to the Lord Jesus Christ through Team Impact. Today, Team Impact is aired weekly on television programs in over 260 countries and ministers to some of the largest churches in America.

Keenan Smith became Lead Pastor of Crosby Church in 2003. Since then he has introduced fresh and exciting change. A man of positive dynamics, Keenan continues to stretch the Crosby Church congregation with biblical principles by developing a philosophy of Build the People, Build the Body, Build the Kingdom.

A firm believer in community involvement, Keenan has been a Crosby-Huffman Chamber of Commerce member since 1995 and has served on the Chamber Board since 1996. In 2004, Keenan and his wife Lorie founded Crosby Care—Meeting the Needs of People, Inc., a non-profit organization that offers a low-cost alternative for groceries and helps to clothe hundreds of children every Christmas.

Bert Watson - Executive Minister

After 35 years in Africa, Dr. Bert Watson joined the Crosby Church ministry team in Spring 2019. His passions include teaching God’s word for transformation, equipping people for ministry, developing biblical leaders, and multiplying the church’s worldwide missional impact. Like the apostle Paul, his desire is to see every believer ‘fully developed’ in Christ (Col. 1:28).

Bert is married to Surette, a South African, and they have three children, all of whom have been involved in ministry.

A lifelong learner, Bert holds a MA in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary and a PhD in Practical Theology from South African Theological Seminary (SATS), where he develops and teaches courses on biblical leadership for emerging and existing church leaders from many countries.

Bert’s varied experiences in Africa include overseeing Youth for Christ’s Youth Harvest outreach into 2000 schools, which saw well over 100,000 young people respond to Christ (1990-1993), pastoring a rapidly growing youth and young adult congregation at Maranatha Community Church (1993-2000), and founding Leading Edge Christian Ministries to train and develop church leaders in a number of countries (2000-2019). He has been privileged to partner with, contribute to, and facilitate training on behalf of many well-known leaders, movements, churches, and organizations.

As part of Crosby Church’s expanding missional focus, Bert will continue his international involvement in church leader development. In addition to teaching at SATS, he is also developing an online process that will use mobile technology to better equip the 2-3 million undertrained emerging and existing church leaders in the Majority World.

John’s careers, prior to full-time ministry, are diverse. After leaving school at the age of 16, he joined the Royal Air Force. Josh Powell - Associate Pastor Student Ministries

Josh Powell was born in Lynnville, IN in 1983. He was not raised in church and knew very little truth about the Lord. He loves basketball and was on the Indiana state basketball team in 1999. Through sports, he became friends with a Christian teenager in high school. Because of this Christian teen and his family, after many invites which Josh declined, Josh accepted an invitation to go to an outdoor Christian music festival where a man who had never met Josh approached him and began to speak about things to Josh that only God could have known. As a result of God showing himself so real to Josh that night, Josh accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior and began attending Boonville Worship Center at the age of 19 with his Christian friend. About 3 years later, Josh began to feel the call to ministry and became a licensed minister through the Bethel Ministerial Association.

Rhonda was born in Boonville, IN in 1981. Her family did attend church off and on for most of her childhood and began attending Boonville Worship Center when she was 10. At 15, Jesus began to relentlessly pursue Rhonda's heart and she attended Bethel Youth Camp and Conference Center in Dale, IN where Pastor Keenan Smith often came to preach. Jesus radically changed her life that summer and called her into the ministry. She proceeded to attend the Lee University, a Christian University in Cleveland, TN where she received a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Biblical Studies. God has taken her to many places for missions such as Israel, China, Ghana, Colombia, and Guatemala.

In the summer of 2004, after Rhonda was returning from a year of missions in Colombia, God told her to stay and as a result He began to write the love story of Josh and Rhonda and they were later married in October of 2005. The following year in October of 2006, Josh and Rhonda became the youth pastors at Boonville Worship Center and did many things with the youth there including directing camps and fall retreats, community outreaches as well as youth services, discipleship classes, etc. They worked with the youth there until God used a series of events to bring the Powell's southward to become the youth ministers at the Crosby Church- Huffman Campus. Accompanying them is their three children: Abigail, Josiah, and Hadassah.

Josh and Rhonda love teens and having fun with the teens. They have a passion for the teens of today to come to know and love Jesus Christ and to teach them how to walk out their faith in everyday life. They have a heart for discipleship and giving teens a strong foundation in Christ so they will not be shaken by what this world can bring and they are ready to see a wide harvest in this area of young people falling in love with Jesus.

Tom Long - Elementary Children's Minister

Tom Long was born Febuary 10, 1979 and raised in Indiana. He married his best friend Chandella in 2001. He has been in the ministry for 20+ years in almost every aspect of the church. Chandella was a preachers kid and has been doing ministry her whole life. They have five amazing children. Three are teenagers and two are toddlers so as Tom often says “Someone is always crying at their house”. When asked as a child what do you want to be when you grow up Tom said “I want to be a dad”. He loves every aspect of the calling to be a dad. Family is the second most important thing in their lives behind the love of Christ. Tom has a passion and calling on his life to teach and guide your children to a greater knowledge and love for Christ. The generation of children are in need of an understanding of the Father’s love. The children’s department is dedicated to allowing your kids to feel the love and presence of God. Tom believes that the children are the most important members of the church and treats them like that.

Denita Owens- Early Childhood Children's Minister

I am truly honored to be among the staff at Crosby Church. I have been a member here for numerous years and I Love My Church! I have two beautiful daughters, Katie and Kara, that you will see helping in different areas throughout our church. My husband Cliff also serves in our outreach events. I have 29 years of experience in public school education which includes PreK3 all the way up to 21 year olds. I have a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree as well as my Superintendent certificate. I believe God completely opened this door and gave me the opportunity to serve as Crosby Church Preschool Minister. I will continue to lean in to the things that God has for me here at Crosby Church and will strive to serve parents, babies, and their young children in every way that the Lord continues to allow me. One of my favorite bible verses is Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. I wholeheartedly believe that preschool ministry along with parents are the beginning of the foundation of that training.

Robin Snell-  Huffman Children's Minister

Hello I am Robin Snell and I am excited that God has placed me at the Huffman Campus of Crosby Church to be the Children’s Minister. I was first introduced to Crosby Church when I was given the opportunity to assist with VBS. I can honestly say that I was hooked from that point forward. I have been the lead teacher of the PreK3 up to Kindergarten classroom at Crosby Church, and I am the assistant director of our Mother’s Day out Program, and it seemed like a natural progression to serve in more of a leadership capacity at our Huffman Campus. I love the Lord My God with all of my heart and am proud to be called to leadership in whatever capacity the Lord sees fit to place me in. Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Thanks for entrusting your children to me for this instruction on Thursday and Sunday.

Judy Shann-Receptionist

Rhonda Powell - Mother's Day Out Director

Rhonda became our Mothers Day Out Director in February of 2017. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee with a Bachelors Degree in education with a licensure for K-8. She proceeded to get her Indiana teaching license and taught there for over 10 years. She is also now a licensed teacher in the state of Texas. In her teaching experience she has worked with many different age groups, also worked in preschool ministry and children ministry as well as directed many church programs for youth ministry. Her vision for our program is to provide a ministry that will allow parents and grandparents the much needed break they often need while also helping their children develop socially, spiritually, emotionally and academically. Her goal is for each child that comes through our program to be kindergarten ready and be able to start school on the right foot and maybe even a few steps ahead.
